Building Construction 1

This module intends to develop the understanding of the principles and practices of construction technology in relation to site, building components like foundation, floors, staircase, beam, column, wall, opening, roof and ceiling. There are 2 projects in this module, which is Project 1 "Documentation and Analysis" that document and analysis the site we contacted about the building construction process. Then, Project 2 "Construction Detail and Specification" which is a building construction detail technical drawing assignment.

Project 1 - Documentation & Analysis

This assignment required students to contact with construction site for site visit to produce a complete documentation and analysis of construction elements. The documentation must contain the process of a site from site visiting, site clearance, foundation, until the 80% of building construction. For my group, we found a construction site of bungalow that located opposite Taman Aman. We went there for site visit and get to learned about the construction process and also some materials used knowledge. Then we produce the documentation together. From this assignment, we get to learn about manage one-self and be self-reliant so that we can get to submit the assignment in time. Moreover, I also learned about the effective use of ICT and related technology get to increase the effectiveness of group work.

Project 2 - Construction Detail and Specification

This assignment emphasis on proposing details for certain sections of a building, both structural and architectural detailing. Students are required to find and analyse the floor plan and section plan on the construction of a 2-storey or 3-storey residential building. Besides, students need to identify and propose 2 construction detail from the assign categories. Students need to draw manually the building with appropriate specifications, symbols, dimensions and the proposed materials clearly. For this assignment, I found a house located at Korea, name "The Masonry House" that is 3-storey bungalow. From this assignment I learned to embody Taylor's core values and also locate, extract, synthesise and utilise information effectively.
