Building Material

This module intends to inform student the relevant visual and physical properties of the wide range of building materials. It also encompass the broad environmental debate by including energy saving and recycled materials. This module also introduced about the manufacture process of different materials and the usage of those materials. Besides, this module are to introduce various types of building materials used in current construction practice and also to understand the choices of designers make in choosing building materials based on the properties of the materials. There are 2 projects in this module, which is Project 1 - The Architect's Building and Project 2 - The Experiential EXploration.

Project 1 - The Architecture's Building

This project required student to find an interested Architect and study about the Architect's building. From researching the material used in the building, the properties of the materials, the usage of materials until find the actual materials. From this project students get to differentiate the materials and know the materials properties. From this project I get know about the team dynamic and mobilise the power of team to finish the entire project.

Project 2- An Experiential Exploration

In this Project 2, we are required to find a commercial building that interested to experience the building materials. Besides, we need to explore at least 15 materials in the building and also the ambience of the building that affects by the selected material. We are required to produce 2 presentation board and 1 mood board as a group of members. However, from this project I developed an interpersonal skills which is understand team dynamics and mobilise the power of team yet also understand and assume leadership.

Not only that, we are also required to do one individual board which is about the experiential analysis between the materials and space. We are required to choose one space from the building and elaborate about it. From here I understand the discipline specific knowledge like understand ethical issues in the context of the field of study.
