DESIGN COMMUNICATION

This modules introduce fundamental skills for the appropriate communication of architectural design. It engages different means of visualization and expression of space and spatial ideas through architectural drawings and modelling to prepare students with the skills required in Design projects. These skills taught through a series of freehand, constructed drawing, and architectural modelling held both outdoors and in the studio. There are total 3 projects in this module, project 1 - On Site Sketching and Tonal Values, project 2 - (2a)Orthographic Projections, (2b)Axonometric Projections, (2c)Perspectives & Project 3 - Finishing and Presentation (An integration with Studio I)

Project 1 - On Site Sketching

From this project 1 I learned about visualizing the space by observation and perception then produce sketches from selecting site. Then I understand about notion detailing's in architecture and objects and developed skills to communicate sketches through tonal and depth values and also different techniques for hatching. Besides, I developed a lifelong learning skills which is learning independently that help me complete this project in time.

Project 2 - Drawings

2a - Orthographic Projections

For project 2 part A we are assigned to draw a building, "ex of in house". We required to draw the given floor plan, elevations and sections on tracing paper with technical pen. I learned to use technical pen to demonstrate drafting skills in modern and traditional methods in architectural drawings. Besides, I can identify and apply architectural conventions and symbols.

2(b) - Axonometric Projections

Closed Axonometric Projection

Exploded Axonometric Projection

For Part B we are required to draw exterior and interior axonometric drawing of the building on tracing paper with technical pen so that we are able to express spatial idea and architectural details in three-dimension. This also help us in using this skills to generate axonometric drawing and apply them into design process and presentation.

2(c) - Perspective Drawings

2- points Perspective Drawing

1- point Perspective Drawing

This is the last part of project 2, we are required to draw the perspective drawing of the building. By using floor plan and elevation to produce 2- points perspective exterior view of the building. Then using section to draw 1- point perspective interior view of the building. From this project, I developed intrapersonal skills that we should manage ourselves and self- reliant so that we can manage to finish the project in time. Besides I also learned about define and analyze problems to arrive at effective solutions.

Project 3 - Finishing and Presentation

This is the last project for this module, which is also an integration with design studio I final project. For this project I had apply all the knowledge I learned from this module into the presentation board. In the presentation board, floor plan, elevation, section and also perspective view drawing are drawn. For this final project, it reflects my actions and learning from this module as the intrapersonal skills.
